Hazel Mead has been enriching the lives of older adults for over 23 years. She began her career as a CNA, and later joined the therapy department, before becoming a volunteer coordinator. Currently, Hazel serves as the Life Enrichment coordinator for Independent Living where she has found her true calling.
When asked her favorite part about working at UMRC, she quickly replies, “the residents, most definitely!” She adds, “Their wisdom and knowledge are incredible! I have learned more from our residents than in all my schooling.”
Hazel is most proud of the success of the programs she and her team have launched, including the annual staff-resident Talent Show and camping trips to Lake Huron Retreat Center, a United Methodist ministry, to name a few.
Originally from Great Britain, Hazel is married and has two children and three grandchildren. When she’s not working, she loves to be in her garden or just “puttering” around the house.
“UMRC has been so wonderful and treated me so well. I can’t imagine working anywhere else,” says Hazel. “The staff is so compassionate, and I love seeing them communicate with our residents and want to know all about each other. The residents are so appreciative of our team members in every department.”
